Indoor garden railway meet

I went along to a winter meeting of the West Hertfordshire group. It’s a bit of an oxymoron to call it an indoor meeting of a garden railway group, but that’s what it is. I can imagine the headlines already: “Garden railway group meet indoors to avoid the cold weather.”

The West Herts group do meet in gardens throughout the summer months, and have the use of a church hall and a temporary layout for use during the winter

It’s the summer holidays and it’s all quiet

I thought I’d better post something, simply because there’s been nothing written since May! I’ve been working on other things, including moving house, making maps of Minecraft as a way of learning Python, and re-skinning this blog so it matches my main site.

Cliff Barker provides useful bits for trackmaking in various gauges, including Gauge 1 trackmaking. Some of the components, e.g. the point levers, may be useful for other gauges.

Scratch-building a loco body in plastic

Rik (of Rik’s Railway) describes how he created a “Fowler” Diesel loco, for his 45mm gauge railway.

http://riksrailway.blogspot.com/2011/04/how-i-converted-playmobil-diesel-into.html

The chassis is a modified Playmobil/LGB Toytrain chassis and the body is a scratchbuild based loosely on a cross between a standard gauge Fowler and a 2′ gauge Fowler.
