Micro-scale spaceships

This black spaceship has been languishing in the display cabinet for a while. I can’t remember when I built it – probably about 5 years ago. What I find really awesome about this build is that there are no studs showing anywhere on the model. (image Jan 2016)

Black Spaceship

Here is the under-side – just to confirm there really are no studs showing.Black spaceship (underside)It also has great play value – the thing they call “swooshability”.

Another black micro-scale spaceship, beautiful in its asymmetry – built December 2010.

Another micro-scale spaceship, in sand green, built March 2018.

Holiday time

This has to be one of the best LEGO models I have built in a long time.

This is not my own design. It is an official LEGO model, number 10220 (Brickset link here). The build is complex. There are parts at all kinds of angles, and some bits are somewhat fragile once they’re assembled. But it was a delight to build, and to see it all come together step by step.

It is instantly recognisable.

There are loads of lovely features on this model. The doors open, the roof lifts up, the engine hood at the back can be opened…

and inside, there’s a table with a suitably large wineglass, a sink, a really cramped shower room (just like the real thing), and those amazing curtains!IMG_0138s

Gear lever, gas pedal, brake pedal, dashboard … it’s all there.

All ready to go off on an adventure. Crank up the Beach Boys, and drive off into the sun…

Offices in London

I was very privileged recently to be able to visit the offices of The LEGO Group in London. It should come as no surprise that they have a large version of their famous logo right in front of you at the reception area.

It’s over 2 metres across. Here’s a close-up so you can see what it’s made of:

There is also this great gap in the wall between two parts of the office:

and here is a lampshade.

The art everywhere is very inspiring, and I’m sure it would be a fantastic place to work.
